Filing your personal taxes is just one part of tax season—the next step is making sure your payment reaches the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on time.

Fortunately, there are several convenient ways to pay, whether you prefer online banking, credit card payments, or in-person options.

On this page, we’ll walk you through the different methods available so you can choose the one that works best for you and avoid any late fees or penalties.

Option 1: Online banking

Every bank’s online banking system is slightly different, so if you run into any issues, give your bank a call—they should be able to guide you through the setup. Here’s a general step-by-step process for making a payment to the CRA through online banking:

  1. Go to Pay Bills.

  2. Add a Payee and search for “CRA.”

  3. Select the appropriate payee option:

    • For a year-end balance owing: CRA PIT – Tax Amount Owing

    • For personal tax installments: Federal – Personal Tax Instalment – TXINS

    • If your search includes a specific tax year (e.g., CRA PIT – 2019 Tax Return), select that option.

  4. Enter your SIN as the account number.

  5. Make your payment just like you would for any other bill.

Following these steps will ensure your payment is correctly applied to your tax account.

Option 2: With a debit card via CRA My Payment

You can pay your taxes directly to the CRA using your Visa Debit or Debit Mastercard through the CRA’s secure My Payment service.

However, credit cards and Interac® debit cards are not accepted through this method.

Here’s how to make a payment using My Payment:

  1. Visit the CRA’s My Payment page

  2. Ensure you have an activated Visa Debit or Debit Mastercard.

  3. Scroll down to Step 02 and click the green button labeled “Pay now using My Payment.”

5. Choose the tax year or payment type that applies to you, then continue with the remaining steps to complete the payment.

Option 3: Pay in person at your bank

You can make your tax payment in person at your bank by bringing a remittance voucher along with your payment. This method allows you to pay directly at the teller using cash or a cheque.

Our T1 tax packages include a remittance voucher, so you’ll receive one automatically when you file your taxes with us!

Option 4: Mail in a cheque

  1. Make your cheque payable to: Receiver General
  2. Write your SIN on the cheque. (This is important — your payment will not get processed correctly without your SIN number.)
  3. Mail your cheque to:
